Jenny L. Holen, 67, of Kearney, died Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Kearney Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Friday, January 26, 2018 at Spirit Of Life Church in Kearney. Pastor Jonathan Lumbard will officiate. Interment will be in the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Thursday at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home. Jenny Lee Yen was born on July 6, 1950 in Washington, DC to Quinton and Kim Yen. She grew up and received her education in Washington, DC and Silver Springs, MD. She graduated from high school in Wheaton, MD in 1968. She then graduated from Montgomery Jr. College in Bethesda, MD in 1970. While attending Montgomery Jr. College she was a Pom Pom girl. As a Pom Pom girl she performed for the Washington Redskins and in the Apple Blossom Parade. She was united in marriage to Dennis Shultz on April 11, 1970. Four children blessed this marriage; Julie, Kathleen, Jeff and Danielle. In 1983 Jenny began working for Kearney State College and later the Multicultural Affairs Department at the University of Nebraska of Kearney. On July 1, 1996 she was united in marriage to Randall Holen at the Sandals Montego Bay Resort in Jamaica. They made their home in Kearney where she continued to work for UNK until her death. Jenny was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed playing tennis, fishing, playing games with her grandchildren, bargain shopping and traveling on cruises with her husband, Randy. She was an avid photographer and never missed an opportunity to capture a memory with her camera. She also collected knick knacks that she kept ready for all her grandchildren when they came to visit. Her friends and family always looked forward to her cooking, especially her corn beef and cabbage, egg rolls, stir fry and homemade mac and cheese. Recently Jenny found peace and comfort watching the squirrels and cardinals in her backyard. She is survived by her loving husband, Randy Holen of Kearney; her children, Julie Walker and husband Bryan of Spearfish, SD, Kathleen Roeder and husband Jason of Kearney, Jeff Shultz and wife Andrea of Omaha, Danielle Shultz and Mohammed Husain of Omaha, Todd Holen of Lincoln, Mandy Ossenkop of Waverly, Brandi Frenzel and husband Scott of Lincoln, Heidi Johnson and husband Shawn of Livingston, MT; 14 grandchildren; her mother, Kim Yen of Jacksonville, North Carolina; two sisters, Dena Fox and husband Hampton of Hewitt, Texas and Lita Lavoie and husband Larry of Baton Rouge, LA; and a brother, Steve Yen of Bethesda, MD. Jenny was preceded in death by her father, Quinton Yen.
