A. David McIntosh

A celebration of life for A. David McIntosh of Kearney, Nebraska, will be held at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Norfolk, Nebraska, on November 1, 2025 beginning at 4 pm until 6 pm. There will be no formal service, but an opportunity to gather, reminisce, and celebrate his life so bring your favorite David stories. This will be an informal gathering and Husker gear is encouraged to honor David’s love for the Nebraska football team. A. David McIntosh was born in Norfolk, NE to J. Paul and Eleanor McIntosh on April 15, 1962. His dad wanted to name him Angus Clyde, but Eleanor and his two sisters were so appalled that an innocent child would be saddled with such a moniker. So the compromise was to use only the initial “A” as his first name, with everyone knowing full-well that the “A” was for Angus. David wore that “A” with pride. David grew up in Norfolk, graduating from Norfolk High School in 1980 and the University of Nebraska in 1985. He married his beloved Kari Sue Olofson in Smithwick, SD on October 9, 1995. David and Kari lived in Lincoln and Kearney where he managed rent-to-own stores and worked in the banking industry for 10 years. From the time he was born, David was a people person. As a little boy he loved playing outside and “farming” his mom’s rose garden. But every 45 minutes or so, he would stop plowing so he could run into the house and get a warm hug from his mom. Then, re-energized, he would run back outside and resume his farming. This love of life followed him into adulthood. The best way to describe David is that he was a guy who loved a good time and knew how to make almost every day a good time. David was a Maximalist. He approached every task with the goal to make it the biggest and best. When he was working, he put everything into achieving and exceeding the goals set out for him. When he played, he not only made sure he had the best time, but that everyone around him did too. Nothing warmed his heart more than watching the Nebraska Huskers play football, except maybe his endless succession of kitties. He loved his kitties. A music lover from the time he first learned to play the upright bass, David and Kari traveled all over the US to participate in concerts. There wasn’t a rock band that he didn’t like or a rock song that he didn’t know the performer. David was the family’s source for music trivia. One of their greatest joys was to experience new people and places. David and Kari traveled all over the world to experience life in other places. They continued their traveling adventures even when David’s health began to deteriorate. David died at his home with Kari at his side on October 4, 2025, after a gallant battle with kidney disease and cancer. David is survived by his courageous and devoted wife, Kari, sisters Janet Einspahr of Norfolk, NE and Heather McIntosh of Buffalo, WY, brother Jonathan (Barb) McIntosh of Colorado Springs, CO and their families, mother-in-law Sue Olofson of Smithwick, SD, brothers-in-law Don Horn of Norfolk, Chris (Nikki) Olofson of Afton, WY and Craig Olofson of Custer, SD as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents J. Paul and Eleanor McIntosh, his sister LaRayne McIntosh Horn, nephew, Nicholas McIntosh, father-in-law Ron Olofson, and brother-in-law Glen Einspahr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Lyonheart Equine Assisted Learning or Kearney Community Theater, both in Kearney, NE or donor’s choice.
