Allen L. Smith, 85, Kearney died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010 at Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney. Funeral services will be 9:30 AM, Saturday Feb. 13th at O'Brien Straatmann Funeral Home in Kearney. The Rev. Lew Champ will officiate. Military honors will be at Kearney Cemetery conducted by the NE National Guard Honors Team in conjunction with the American Legion Post 52 and VFW Post 759 of Kearney. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. On-line condolences may be submitted to osafh.com O'Brien Straatmann Funeral Home in Kearney is in charge of arrangements. He was born Nov. 1, 1924 in Minden, NE to Elmer and Etta (Giffin) Smith. He grew up and received is education in Hazard. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was married to Leona "Toni" M. Kramer on May 20, 1956 in Minden, NE. They made their home in Kearney. He worked for Samway Motors from 1952-74. They lived in various places including Deer Lodge, MT, Ansley and Gibbon. During those times he managed a Stuckeys Store from 1974-75, owned Wagon Wheel Bar in Ansley from 1975-76 and worked at the Gibbon Pack from 1977-89. He was a member of the Eagles Club and VFW. He enjoyed looking at old tractors and cars, woodworking and time spent with his family. Survivors include his son, Kelly S. and wife, Teresa of Kearney; daughter, Linette Darland and husband, Alan of Marion, IA; grandchildren, Krystal Hebb and husband, Jeff of Sioux City, IA, Katie Nutzman and husband Blair of St. Joseph, MO, Sean Darland of Marion, IA, Jamey Issler and wife, Tracy of Fremont, Jessica Hartung and husband, Jason of Omaha, Samantha Ludacka and husband, Jake of Omaha, and Scott Issler and wife, Samantha of Fort Riley, KS; six great grandchildren; brothers, David and wife, Betty of Gibbon, Clinton and wife, Irene of Kearney and Delbert and wife, Linda of Cozad; and sisters, Leota Kline and husband, Art of Grand Island, Erma Howell of Phillipsburg, KS, Verna Feurt of Wood River and Marjorie Walker of Ashland. He was preceded in death by his wife; daughter, Alaine; brother, Ted; and one great granddaughter.
