Barbara K. Huryta

Barbara Kay Huryta, 72, of Kearney, NE passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Welcov Assisted Living Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 am Saturday, January 21, 2017 at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Melody Adams will officiate. Visitation will be from 10-11 am Saturday at the church. According to Barb’s wishes, she will be cremated after services and interment of ashes will take place at a later date at Highland Cemetery in Ravenna. O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home is serving the family. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Barb was born to Vernon and Erma Johnson on November 10th, 1944, and was raised on a farm in Rockville. She was Baptized at Rockville Community Church on March 25th, 1951. Barb received her education from Rockville High School and graduated Valedictorian in 1963. She continued her education at Kearney State College. On July 10th, 1965, Barb was united in marriage to Keith Huryta in Rockville, NE. Barb and Keith’s union was blessed with two children, Roxann and Rocky. Barb and her family have lived in various places, but most recently Bertrand, Johnson’s Lake, and Kearney. Barb worked in the banking business from 1974 to her retirement in 2009. She loved her job and her relationships with her coworkers. Barb enjoyed volunteering where she was needed at the First United Methodist Church. She especially loved her Women’s Circle, making prayer pockets, folding bulletins, and serving at Church events. Barb had a talent for baking kolaches and crescent rolls, and sewing. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren by attending their school events, visiting with them, and playing cards with them. In her free time, Barb enjoyed gardening and planting flowers, going to garage sales, getting pedicures, serving meals for friends and family, and shooting guns. She leaves to celebrate life; her husband, Keith Huryta of Kearney; daughter, Roxann Gregg and husband Monte of Bertrand; son, Rocky Huryta of Kearney; sisters, Gale Enevoldsen and Myra Glause of Grand Island; Grandchildren, Ashley Huryta, Chris Huryta and wife Alex, Harley Huryta, Meghan Gregg of Kearney, and Jacob Gregg of Bertrand; Great-grandchildren; Cloe Huryta, Jax, and Milo Huryta of Kearney; and numerous other relatives and friends. Barb is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Erma; brothers-in-law, Terry Enevoldsen and Ron Glause.
