Donald Mason, 85 Kearney, Nebraska Donald L. Mason, 85, of Kearney died Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the Creighton Medical Center in Omaha. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 19, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Kearney with Pastor Stan Murdoch officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be 2:00 P.M. at the Glenvil Cemetery in Glenvil, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church. Donald L Mason was born May 25, 1927 to Jean and Eunice (Woodcock) Mason near (southeast of) Paxton, Nebraska. The second of four children, Bob, Ethel, Lyle, he grew up south of North Platte and attended Miller grade school and graduated from North Platte Senior High in 1945. On October 3, 1954 he married Margaret Hunnicutt. Don was baptized by believer’s baptism in 1955 and lived his love for The Lord in his daily walk. The couple made their home in North Platte before moving to a farm near Glenvil, NE in 1959 where they farmed. Don farmed for most of his life. They moved to Hastings in 1980 where he was employed at Thermo King and then moved to Kearney in 1994. Don was a devoted husband and father who loved to laugh, recount his vivid dreams and childhood memories. He loved to travel, camp and spend time with his family at his Cousins Reunions. He loved his church, First Baptist, in Kearney and more than that, he loved his Savior, Jesus. Survivors include his wife; son, Dean of Glenvil; daughters, Elaine Mason of Arlington, Texas, Lois Dauel and husband, Dan of Kearney, and Kris Hughbanks and husband, Tim of Kearney; seven grandchildren Justin Dauel and wife, Heather, Adam Dauel, Melissa Dauel, Brandon Verzal, Nathan Verzal, Jessica Abbott and husband, AJ and Courtney Hughbanks. And three great grandchildren Zachary and Rebekah Dauel and Isaac Verzal; brother, Lyle Mason and wife, Mildred of Castle Rock, CO; several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Alice Mason; sister, Ethel and sister-in-law, Kathryn Hunnicutt.
