Dorothy Hopkinson, 77 Kearney resident Dorothy A. Hopkinson 77 of Kearney passed away Monday, May 07, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Hannappel officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the church with a Vigil Prayer service following at 7:00 P.M. In Lieu of flowers, Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Dorothy Ann Hopkinson was born January 7, 1935 in Morris, IL to George J. and Mildred (Armstrong) McGuan. She received her education in a one room country school and then graduated from High School at St. Angela Academy in Morris, IL in 1953. She then moved to Omaha where she worked for United Airlines. Dorothy was united in marriage to Gale L. Salyard on June 1, 1957. This marriage ended in divorce on July 1, 1966. Most of her working years were in the accounting field. In 1964, she was employed by Allen’s Self-Service Stores and stayed there for 21 years until the business was sold. Prior to the sale of the business, the office was moved from the Grand Island store to the North Platte store, so Dorothy was moved by the company to North Platte in 1980. She married William G. Hopkinson on August 7, 1981 in North Platte, NE. The couple lived in Las Vegas, NV and Sun City, AZ before settling in Kearney. Dorothy enjoyed knitting, sewing, cooking, genealogy and spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband, Bill of Kearney; sons, Thomas J. Salyard and wife, Patricia of Columbus, Patrick J. Salyard and wife, Tracy of La Vergne, TN; daughters, Theresa A. Wadkins and her husband, Doug of Lexington, Ann M. Callow of Overland Park, KS; step-sons, Wayne D. Hopkinson and wife, Kris of North Platte, Ron Hopkinson of North Salt Lake, UT; step-daughters, Sylvia E. Shenk and husband, Steve of South Jordan, UT, Bernice Young of West Valley, UT; 20 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; sisters, Mary Drescher of Aurora, CO and Eleanor Boza and her husband, John of Joliet, IL. Dorothy is preceded in death by her son, Daniel J. Salyard and one brother, Robert McGuan.
