Earl Michel, 84 Kearney Resident Earl Michel, 84 of Kearney, died Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Wel-Cov Assisted Living in Kearney. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Kearney First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Main officiating. Interment will follow at Kearney Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #52 and the VFW Post #759 in conjunction with the Nebraska National Guard Honors Team. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to the AseraCare Hospice. Earl Duane Michel was born June 9, 1930 in Mineral Point, WI to Richard Earl and Elsie Marie (Thomas) Michel. Earl was united in marriage to the love of his life, Donna June Ogg on June 20, 1954 at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney. He came from humble beginnings, learning the value of hard work from an early age and never shied away from the task at hand. He lived a life of dignity and respect, and was a great provider and role model to not only his family, but to many in the community. He was truly proud of his children and their accomplishments, and valued each of his friendships. He earned the respect of many in the community. Earl may not have had many hobbies, due to providing for his family, but he was a big fan of NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt. Earl enjoyed making the trip with Donna to his Korean War Veterans Reunions. He enjoyed conversation with all friends and family. Survivors include his sons, Ron and wife Candi of Kearney, Brian and wife Teresa of Lincoln, Kurt and wife Becky of Kearney, Todd “T. J.” of Kearney; daughter, Lisa Goetz of Kearney; grandchildren, Michel Peterson and wife Amy of Amherst, Nathan Peterson of Kearney, Dilan Michel of Lincoln, Lindsey Ahrens and husband Nate, Hayden Peterson, Keefer Michel, Trevor Michel, Nicole Cool, Teya Michel all of Kearney, great-grandchildren, Jacob Peterson and Brayden Peterson both of Amherst; brother, Jack Michel and wife, Marilyn of Wenatchee, WA; nephews, Jef and Jeremy Michel of Wenatchee, WA. Earl was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
