Eva V. Smith, 58 of Kearney died Thursday, August 14, 2014 at her daughter's residence following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home of Kearney. The Rev. Stan Murdoch will officiate. Visitation and viewing will be one hour prior to service time. Interment will be in the Overton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. She was born on November 9, 1955 in Portland, Maine to Gerald and Twyla (Frink) O'Brien. She attended Kearney Public Schools. Eva lived her life with such passion, always laughing and pulling pranks on others. She had an abundance of love for her family and cherished her children and grandchildren. Eva strived and sacrificed to make everyone's life easier, always putting her needs last. Eva had a lot of compassion for those struggling in life. She would often welcome friends as well as strangers into her home and feed, bathe and financially assist them. Many children called her "Eva Grandma". Eva could cuss like a sailor and smile like an angel, appreciating all of God's creations especially animals. Her favorite companion for many years was a blind dog named, Scooter. We will miss you so much, Eva, your smile, spontaneous laughter and your zeal. You deserve to rest now in your Heavenly mansion that God has prepared for you. Keep flying high with the angels. Survivors include her mother, Twyla of Kearney, sons, Scott O'Brien (Christie Jezbera), and Jeffrey D. Smith all of Kearney, daughter, Shannon (Jeremy) Haussermann of Kearney, grandchildren, Jaden, Jacie and Eric Hausermann, Anthony and Alex O'Brien, Michelle Jezbera and Carter Steinmark, brothers, Bill O'Brien of Glenwood, IA, Mike, Steve and Brett Sr. O'Brien all of Kearney, sisters, Cinda Egge of Kearney, Linda Gant of Gibbon and Kelly Sieck of Dubuque, IA, brother and sister-in-laws, Denny, Butch, Chris, Barb, Linda and Ginger. She was preceded in death by her father, son, Roger Mattson Jr, 4 grandchildren born at rest, nephews, Jerry Gant, Jared Rowedder, Jackson Egge and Billy O'Brien Sr., neices, Debbie Dyke (Gant), Jessica O'Brien and Stacey O'Brien.
