Gerald "Jerry" Gant

Gerald "Jerry" L. Gant, 42, of Kearney, died February 3, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home of Kearney with the Reverend Dean Pofahl officiating. Interment will be at the Overton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Jerry was born April 19, 1969 in Kearney to Edmon G. and Linda L. (O'Brien) Gant. He accepted Christ and was baptized on May 20, 1978, at the Faith United Methodist Church in Kearney. He worked for Kearney Jiffy Lube until he was diagnosed with cancer. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and shared a lot of great moments with his brother, Eddie, on the family land in Overton. He enjoyed the times that he spent 4 wheeling with his girls and extended family and friends. Jerry was a free spirit and possessed a wonderful compassion for everyone. He was always ready to help others in any way he could. Those that were fortunate enough to have known Jerry and developed a friendship knew that they would always have a great ally and true friend. Jerry loved life and people and could see the great wonders in nature that others often missed. But now his free spirit has been lost from this world of pain and is soaring with his sister Debbie in heaven. He will always be remembered by his family and friends- also his many aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins. Soar high Jerry, we will be together again. Love you always. He is survived by his twin daughters, Janae and Jewell of Kearney; sons, Brandan and Johnathan of Kearney; his parents, Ed and Linda Gant of Kearney; brothers, Eddie Gant and Brett O'Brien Jr. of Kearney; sister, Twyla O'Brien of Minnesota, and his loving grandmothers, Twyla O'Brien and Valeria Gant of Kearney. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Gerald O'Brien and William Gant; sister Deborah Dyke; uncle, William Gant, Jr.; and cousins, Jared Rowedder, and Billy O'Brien, Jr.
