Harold Liggett

Harold D. Liggett, 95, of Kearney, died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Northridge Living Center in Kearney. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the Shelton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Melody Adams and Pastor Steve Schanou officiating. Interment will follow at the Shelton Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday and one hour prior to the service, all at the church. Harold Dean Liggett was born July 5, 1917 in Almena, Kansas to James Ross and Mary Estella (Wendel) Liggett. In 1923, the family moved to Flagler, CO and in 1933 to Shelton, NE where he finished high school, graduating in 1935. Harold and Leona Ruth Hunsberger were married in Washington D.C. on December 29, 1939. Born to this union were two daughters, Janice Elaine and Patricia Ann. Harold and Leona moved to Shelton, NE in 1943, where they lived the remainder of their 56 years of marriage. Leona passed away February 18, 1995. Harold and Agnes Louise King were married on August 3, 1996. They lived in Shelton until moving to Kearney in 2009. Harold was a government employee from 1939 until his retirement in 1986, the last 34 years with the Postal Service. He and Leona traveled and wintered in Apache Junction, Arizona and Texas for many years. He enjoyed wood carving, wood working projects, rock hunting, traveling and reading. He was baptized at the Flagler Colorado Congregational Church in 1929. He transferred to the Shelton Methodist Church and was a member there since 1933. Harold was a member of Masonic Lodge for over 60 years. Survivors include his wife, Agnes; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Lynn Bombeck of Shelton and Patricia and Donald Stienike of Fremont; two step sons and step daughter-in-law, Larry and Judy King of Kearney and Terry King of Harrisburg, PA. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Lori and John Revesz of Centennial, CO, Richard Bruce and Julia Bombeck of Grand Island, Doran and Kristie Stienike, and Wanda and Craig Stumpff all of Elkhorn, Steven and Lindsey Stienike deployed to Afghanistan and Omaha. Great grandchildren, Megan Bombeck of Omaha and her fiancé, Danny Zegers of Lincoln, Jared Bombeck of Lincoln, Anna, Ellie and Jon Stienike, Alex, Sean and Ryan Stumpff all of Elkhorn, Piper and Cooper Stienike of Omaha. One brother, Francis Eugene and Rosalie Liggett of Vancouver, WA; sister, Freda Dorinda Hanke of Ballwin, MO; sisters-in-law, Lois Liggett of Winfield, KS and Fred and Ione Seifer, Alice Morgan and Irene Seifer. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Leona; his parents; brother, Robert M. Liggett, a brother-in-law, Orville Hanke and stepdaughter-in-law, LaDonna King.
