Jack D. Dobberstein , 82 of Kearney passed away on January 30, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Hospital. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Kearney First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Main officiating. Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Kearney First United Methodist Church, Monday February 2, 2015 from 6-8:00 p.m. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. O’Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. He was born on October 24, 1932 in rural Harlan County to Albert and Nora K (Hodge) Dobberstein. On December 2, 1956, he married his beloved wife Ramona Peterson of Kearney. Survivors include his wife Ramona, daughter, Linette (Mike) Horn, daughter, Brenda (Duane) Rippe, son, Jed Dobberstein, daughter, Gina Dobberstein and husband Rao Vedurumudi. Grandchildren: Kaleigh (Shawn) Ferraro, Aaron Horn, Dustin (Karla) Rippe, Trevor and Chelsea Dobberstein, Sri Teja Vedurumudi. Great grandchildren: Blake Eadie, Andrew and Kara Ferraro, Kayden Rippe. Brothers Wayne and Dale Dobberstein and numerous in-laws, nephews and nieces. His family moved to Kearney where he attended Kenwood grade school and graduated from Kearney High School in 1950. Jack joined the Air Force December 24, 1951 and was discharged December 10, 1955. He attended Kearney Teachers College in January 1956 and graduated with a BA in math and physics in 1959. He taught High School math and physics for 3 years in Holdrege, Nebraska. In June 1962, he became partner in the Dobberstein roofing business with his brother, Shorty and retired in October 1994. He was a member of the Kearney First United Methodist Church and service organizations Elks, American Legion, VFW and Eagles. He volunteered for the Good Fellows. He had many hobbies/interests over the years. Some of which included breeding and showing paint horses, hunting & fishing with his brothers, wood working, searching for American Indian artifacts, feeding the birds, gardening, cooking, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, mother in-law Evelyn Peterson, brothers and sisters, Jim, Glenn, Shorty, Cole, Erma, Irene, grandchildren Alicia and Karson Rippe.
