Jeanette Mumma, 75, of Kearney died, Thursday, January 1, 2015, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, January 5, 2015 at the First Lutheran Church in Kearney with the Reverend Eric Lesher officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 P.M. in the Nelson Cemetery in Nelson, Nebraska. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M., on Sunday, January 4, at the O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Jeanette was born October 13, 1939 in Superior, NE to David and Olive (Gardiner) Genung. She grew up and received her education in the Nelson, Nebraska area, and graduated from Nelson High School in 1958. She attended Trenton Missouri Junior College and South East Missouri University. She was united in marriage to Charles Mumma on June 29, 1958 in the Methodist Church Nelson, NE. She worked for Mass Mutual Insurance in Lincoln, while Charles was attending the University of Nebraska Lincoln. She worked for Cattle National Bank in Seward, NE until her daughter, Nita, was born. She was Church secretary for the Methodist Church in Republic, MO. She worked for Aid Association for Lutherans in Bismarck, ND and served as a committee clerk for the State of North Dakota legislation. She helped out at Chucks Country Market until her health prevented her from doing so. She served on many church committees, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout Leader, sang in numerous church choirs. She was past president of Alma Jaycee’s, member of the PEO in Mandon, N.D., Member of the Grand Island Optimist Club where she served the board of Directors. She is survived by her daughter, Nita and husband Kim Deyo of Kearney; grandsons, Keith Deyo of Elm Creek, Jarad Deyo and wife Wendy of Kearney; granddaughters, Haley Deyo and McKenzie Deyo both of Elm Creek; brothers, Gene and wife Donnis Genung of Superior, NE, Russell and wife Donna Genung of Deshler, NE; sister, Gwen and husband Gayle Johnson of Davenport, NE, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, both parents; brother in law, Robert Samsula of Oak, NE.
