Jon Keen, 54, of Kearney died Monday, March 26, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 30, 2012 at New Life Assembly with Rev. Roger Wendt and Rev. Bob Wine officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Kearney Relay for Life, care of the American Cancer Society 3808 28th Ave, Suite E, Kearney, NE 68845. Military Honors provided by the Nebraska National Guard Honors Team in conjunction with the Pleasanton VFW # 9481 and the Pleasanton American Legion # 32. Jon Scott Keen was born October 6, 1957 in Minden, Nebraska to Larry and Carolyn (Rush) Keen. He attended Kearney High School and graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1975. Following graduation, Jon enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving three years active duty and 24 and half years in the Army Reserves with 6 months Active Reserves during Desert Storm. Jon was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the American Legion before his illness. He was employed for 29 years as a master machinist in the tool room for the Eaton Corporation. He received his 25 year perfect attendance this past August. Jon attended New Life Assembly in Kearney. Jon loved spending time with his family and friends. Jon bowled on leagues for 29 years and a life-time member of Prairie Hills Golf Course in Pleasanton. One of Jon's passions was collecting barbed wire and a member of the National Barbed Wire Collection Association. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Keen of Kearney; father, Larry Keen and his wife, Cecelia of Kearney; son, Bryon Keen of Grand Island; daughter, Amanda Keen of Minden; 2 grandchildren; sister, Sheila Prosser and husband, David of Wendell, NC, Stacey Epley of Kearney; brother, Jerry Keen of Kearney; step sister, Judy Emerson and husband, Mark of York, NE; step brothers, Roger Lea and wife, Laura of McCool Junction, NE, Gerald Lea of Pleasanton, James Lea of Pleasanton, Robert Hill and wife, Deb of Tahlequah, OK, Ken Hill and wife, Diane of North Platte, Larry Hill of North Platte, Rick Hill of Lexington; sisters-in-law, Debbie Baker and Laura Peterson; mother-in-law, Helen Hale all of Fremont and several nieces and nephews. Jon is preceded in death by his mother, brother-in-law, Mike Baker and father-in-law, Harry Hale.
