Leo Martin

Leo Martin, 80 of Grand Island, died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Nebraska Veteran's Home in Grand Island. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, June 10, 2013 at the O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 2:30 P.M. at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska. Military Honors will be provided by North Platte Honors Team in conjunction with the Nebraska National Guard. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements. Leo M. Martin was born July 2, 1932 in Red Fern Table, Nebraska to James Alfred Leo and Tillie Agnes (Mason) Martin. He attend school until the eighth grade when he was needed at the farm. In July of 1953, Leo enlisted in the United States Army. He was Honorably discharged in July 1956. Leo worked as a service technician and later a service manager for Goodyear in Kearney. He also worked at Countryside Homes in Columbus and most recently as an Over the Road Truck driver. Following his retirement, Leo enjoyed working on small engines and herding sheep on his daughter's ranch. He was know for his ability to fix anything. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia McNeel and husband, Ed of Wellfleet, NE; son, David Martin and wife, Karen of Lincoln; daughter, Sandra Wieser and husband, Bill of Harlan, IA; son, Edward Martin and wife, Jayne of Lee Summit, MO; grandchildren, Leslie Bentz, Sarah McNeel, Zachary Martin, Laura Kitzelman, Erin Simpson, Ameila Galbraith, Hannah Wieser, Acacia Park, Aubrey Martin, Avery Martin; 5 great grandchildren; brothers, Floyd Martin of Lincoln, Dale Martin and wife, Vonnie of Elm Creek; sisters, Lillian Greeley and husband, Dean of TX, Martha Snyder and husband, Dick of Hyannis, NE, Joyce Nielson and husband, Chuck of ; as well as, many nieces and nephews. Leo was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Ryan Wieser.
