Magdalene E. Duering

Magdalene E. Duering, 86, of Kearney, died Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Mt. Carmel Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Friday, May 12, 2017 at First Lutheran Church in Kearney. The Reverend Sylvia Karlsson will officiate. Interment will be at 1:30 pm at St. Peters Cemetery in Hildreth. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Thursday at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or St. Peters Cemetery in Hildreth. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Magdalene Ethel Fritson was born on July 8, 1930 in Macon, Nebraska to John H. and Katherine S. (Dorn) Fritson. She grew up in the Macon and Hildreth area. In 1947 she graduated from Minden High School. Meg was united in marriage to Dale Duering on January 20, 1949 at Kensington, Kansas. After which the couple lived in the Keene and Holdrege area until moving to Kearney in 1952. Meg worked at Boys Training School from 1952-1963, Baldwin Filters from 1963-1967, the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant from 1967-1969 and Metz Baking Company from 1969 until her retirement in 1988. Dale and Magdalene lived in Kearney for 65 years, 54 at their home at 1620 Ave M. Meg was a member of First Lutheran Church for 65 years where she taught Sunday School and later was active in the Quilter’s Guild. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Meg loved to quilt and cook for family and friends. Her homemade pies and jellies will be greatly missed. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Meg is survived by her two daughters, Katherine Noller and husband Thomas of Kearney and Sheryl Aspegren and husband Roger of Mountain Grove, MO; a daughter-in-law, Kayleen Potter and husband Robert of Wilcox; her grandchildren, Amy Noller, Lisa Reynoldson and husband Jason, Jacqueline Minnis and husband Tom, Kari Toews and husband Mike, Kelly Pinson, Bonnie Aspegren, Megan Jurgens and husband Jordan, Rick Aspegren, James Duering and wife Colleen, Candace Ayres, Brian Potter and wife Stephanie and Dee Duering and wife Kristi; 28 great grandchildren; a sister Lillian Johnson; a sister-in-law, Willa Jean Fritson and a brother-in-law, Robert Duering; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dale; two sons, James and Robert Duering; her sisters, Lavina Fritson and Matilda Stuehm and husband Harold; her brothers, Herman (Bud) Fritson and Harold Fritson; her brother-in-law, Edsel Johnson; and nephews, Michael Fritson and Bernard Fritson.
