Mark Ayers

Mark Stephen Ayers, 58 of rural Kearney died Saturday, April 6, 2013 at a local residence. A Celebration of Life service will be 11:30 AM, Saturday at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Scott Boulware will conduct the service. The family request casual dress at the service. Interment will be held prior to the service at 10 AM at the Kearney Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Mark was born on December 17, 1954 in Hastings, NE to Arden (Art) and Joan (Haried) Ayers. He married Debbie (Boulware) Ayers on March 16, 1991. He was an active co-owner of Kearney’s first mini golf course at age 19, employed at Vend-it, Stewart Sandwiches. He was a finance manager at Beneficial and AVCO Finance, a manager at VFW Post 759, Kearney, then co-owner of Ayers Distributing. Mark was active in the Sowers Club of Lincoln, Kiwanis, VFW Post 759, Elks Club 914, American Legion Post 52, and Fraternal Order of Eagles 2272. He is survived by wife, Debbie of Kearney, NE. son, Sean Ayers. daughters, Kimberly Ayers-Slagle and husband Mike, Michelle Ayers and companion Chris Graczyk, Katy Ayers and Megan Ayers all residents of Kearney; six grandchildren whom he adored, his father, Art Ayers of Kearney. sisters, Pam (Ayers) Paez and husband Willie of Parker, CO and Andrea (Ayers) Gwynn and husband Robyn of Dallas, PA, brother, Charles Ayers and wife Pam of Omaha, NE. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mark will be deeply missed. (Pull my finger!) Mark was a fun-guy with a deep love of his family and great danes. He enjoyed laughing at his own jokes, catching Husker games, golfing and bowling. Mark was an outdoorsman who loved taking his boat out, landscaping, hiking and fishing at his home at Summer Haven Lake. He was a reserved, organized and intelligent man with suave dance techniques and a knack for collecting coins. Throughout his life, he made many close friends. Mark was highly involved in charitable gaming with his work at Ayers Distributing. He was proceeded in death by his mother, Joan Ayers; grandparents, Lucille Callahan and LaVerne Ayers, Helen Huffman and Leonard Haried. Immediately following the services, there will be a luncheon at the Kearney Eagles Club 2722 (17 W 24th St).
