Martin Chamberlin

Martin Porter "Port" Chamberlin, 86, a resident of Christian Homes in Holdrege and formerly of Kearney, died Monday evening at the home. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Friday at the First Church of God in Kearney with the Revs. Charlie Gable and Phillip Chamberlin officiating. Interment with military rites will be conducted at the Kearney Cemetery by the Nebraska National Guard Honors Team in conjunction with the American Legion Post 52 and the VFW Post 759 of Kearney. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Thursday at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney and continue one hour prior to service time at the church. On-line condolences may be shared at osrfh.com. O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements. Martin was born December 21, 1926 in Mason City to Wright and Emma (Martin) Chamberlin. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1944 and served in the Army in WWII in Japan. On May 25, 1952, he was united in marriage to Nancy Allen in Ansley, NE. They celebrated their 61st anniversary in May. Martin and Nancy made their home on the family farm near Mason City. They left the farm in 1960 and lived in several different towns, where he was employed by co-op elevators. They settled in Kearney in 1963. He retired in 1990 after 20 years with Eaton Corporation. He was a member First Church of God for forty years and was a member of the Pleasanton VFW. Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Kearney; daughters, Patricia Bartels and husband Merlyn of Upland, Naomi Saathoff and husband James of Naponee, Rachel Seibert and husband Ralph of Axtell, Arla Houck and husband Harley of Axtell; grandchildren, Amanda Ripley and husband Andy of Lincoln, Danielle Saathoff and Kellyn Saathoff of Naponee, April Seibert of Tulsa, OK, James and Lacey Seibert of Dannebrog, Ashley and Christopher Jarmin, and Tara and Mason Lammers all of Gibbon; great grandchildren, Evy and Justice Seibert of Dannebrog and Kacie, Elias and Lilly Jarmin of Gibbon; step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, Chad Houck and his children Wyatt and Brody of Lansing, MI and Scott and Amy Houck and their children Chase, Shayli and Rheese of Omaha. Survivors also include his brothers, Richard and wife Virginia of Lancaster, KY, Wayne and wife Luann of Creston, NE, and Eldon and wife Elaine of Fountain Valley, CA; sister, Lila Payton of Encampment, WY; and sister-in-law, LaDean Chamberlin of Kearney. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, brother, Calvin and brother-in-law, Gale Payton. His acceptance of Jesus Christ as his personal Savior assures us of his place in Heaven for eternity. It is the family's desire to influence the next generation for Christ. The family would appreciate it if all memorials would go to Homeward Trail Bible Camp in Mason City, NE.
