Raymond “Mick” Jarusek, 66 Kearney resident Raymond “Mick” Michael Jarusek died Friday, November 11, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Services will be Tuesday, November 15 at 10:30 AM. The service will be held at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home, 4115 Ave. N, Kearney, Nebraska. Burial will follow at the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, November 14, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at O’Brien, Straatmann, Redinger Funeral Home, 4115 Ave. N, Kearney, Nebraska. Mick was the son of Raymond Charles and Vesper Eva (Smith) Jarusek, and was born November 21, 1949 in Broken Bow, NE. He was the youngest of their three children. He was baptized at the Ansley Methodist Church in 1956. He attended Ansley Public Schools for his primary and secondary education, graduating in 1968. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology from Kearney State College. On July 23, 1972, he was united in marriage with Stephanie Herrold at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney, Nebraska. From their union two children were born, Michelle Rene’ and Tami Eva. Michelle and her husband Clayton Petersen, blessed him with three wonderful grandchildren. Daughter Tami and husband Cody Freeland added two more grandchildren to the family. He loved the family time, especially Christmas, when everyone could get together. He worked majority of his life for Kearney Public. He began as a Maintenance worker in July of 1982, then became the Maintenance Supervisor, and retired as the Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds in 2013. He was awarded the KPS outstanding education support staff award for the 2002/2003 school year. He enjoyed many hobbies over his lifetime. If you wanted to find him during his younger age he was more than likely pheasant hunting. He also enjoyed the special hours of fishing with his father. He loved vegetable gardening, always experimenting with different varieties. Taking after his father, he also was very interested in photography. He had his own dark room so he could also print his pictures. He started in black and white and later graduated to printing in color. Mick is survived by his wife Stephanie, two daughters: Michelle and Clayton Petersen of Omaha, NE and Tami and Cody Freeland of Loomis, NE. Grandsons: Micah and Joel Petersen and Trevor Freeland. Granddaughters: Camryn Petersen and Hailey Freeland; sisters Karen Childers and husband Dave of Ansley, NE and Sandy Kvanvig of Mullen, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents and many aunts and uncles.
