Murl Lahm Kearney resident Murl Knox Lahm, 90 of Kearney died Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral Service will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the Kearney Church of Christ with Jay Towell officiating. Visitation is 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at O’Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at the Kearney Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Nebraska National Guard in conjunction with the Kearney American Legion Post# 52 and Kearney VFW #759. Murl Knox Lahm was born May 1, 1921 in Sumner, Nebraska to Harry Nathaniel and Hazel Belle (Knox) Lahm. The oldest of eight children, Murl graduated from Sumner High School in 1940. He entered the United States Army on December 26, 1942 and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on June 11, 1946 earning the rank of Corporal. Murl moved to Cozad where he owned and operated the Mobil Standard Service Station. He was united in marriage to Deloris L. Becker on May 29, 1969 in Elm Creek, Nebraska. After which the couple lived in Kearney, Nebraska where they owned and operated The Wash House laundry mat. Murl was a member of the Kearney Church of Christ. He enjoyed coin collecting and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Deloris Lahm of Kearney; sons, Stan Lahm and his wife, Sherri of Grand Island, Chris Lahm and his wife, Dawn of Joplin, MO, Brian Burney and his wife, Marsha of Houston, TX, Raymond Burney of Lincoln; daughters, Murlona Austrum and her husband, David of Hudson, WI, Sheila Smith and her husband, Bruce of Omaha, Lisa Moehlenhoff and her husband, John of Lincoln; 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Glen and Lois Lahm of Becker, MN, Stan and Lucille Lahm of Ames, IA, Roger and Karen Lahm of Spirit Lake, IA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ila and Dale Wright of Elm Creek, Connie and Bob Hanson of Chicago, IL; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Murl is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Phyllis Savant, Naomi Newquist and his great granddaughter, Katie Lahm.
