Former Kearney - Holdrege area resident Dick Pearson died February 17, 2010, at Mat Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer, Alaska. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, Mar. 6 at the O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home in Kearney. The Rev. Eric Lesher will officiate. Interment will be held prior to service time at 9:30 AM at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege. The Rev. David Sites will officiate at graveside. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside. Dick was born Aug. 18, 1950 in Holdrege, Ne to Nelse and Beverly (Johnson) Pearson. Dick served in the U.S. Army from June, 1970 - Jan, 1972. During the next several years he made his home in Kearney, Grand Island, Hastings and Doniphan employed by Chief Industries. Dick moved to Wasilla, Alaska in Dec. 2000 and founded Husker Trucking, Inc. Dick and Carol Mills were married on Dec. 12, 2003 and continued make their home in Wasilla until the time of his death. Dick was a Life Member of Am Vets Post 9, American Legion Post 35, a founding member of Valley Abate. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trucking, motorcyles, NASCAR and reading. A friend wrote: Dick was loved by many and will be missed by all, for his kindness, his generosity, and his great sense of humor. Those who knew him well have been blessed for having him in our lives. He is survived by his wife Carol, mother, Beverly Pearson, sister, Julie and brother-in-law Nick Keough of Kearney, brothers and sister-in-laws, Tim and Janis Pearson of Tabor, SD, Jeff and Norma Pearson of Overton, and brother, Stacy Pearson of Grand Island, uncle and aunt, Bruce and MaryAnn Johnson, of Littleton, CO, uncle and aunt Gary and Merry Johnson of Holdrege, mother-in-law, Jean Mills of North Platte, step-daughter and son-in-law, Brandi and Chad Mackenzie of Edwards, CO, step-son and daughter-in-law Ryan Horn and Alexandra Giatras of Edwards, CO and several nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his father, Nelse Pearson, his father-in-law, Dale Mills, grandparents, an aunt and uncle. In lieu of flowers a Memorial Fund in his honor has been established at the Matanuska Valley Credit Union in Wasilla, Alaska.
