Robert "Bob" Boyd

Robert (Bob) Monroe Boyd, 77 Bob Boyd, 77, went to be with his Lord in Savior on October 7, 2022. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. He was born April 4, 1945, in San Diego, California to William Monroe and Hazel Olesta Boyd. His father was a Baptist Pastor in several small churches in Southeastern Oklahoma. His mother was a home maker and faithful servant. Bob graduated high school from Stringtown, Oklahoma and later joined the Army National Guard serving from 1962-1967. Bob married his loving wife and lifelong partner Sara Lynn Branson in Las Cruces, New Mexico in June 1966. They had their first child LaDawna Marie Boyd in August 1967 in Tucson, Arizona. Bob was then working in the copper mines as a heavy equipment operator. In 1968 Bob moved his family back to Oklahoma where he enrolled in Oklahoma Baptist University studying religion while working in radio advertising. In November 1970 they had their second child Kevin Monroe Boyd in Cushing, Oklahoma. Bob and Lynn settled in Blackwell, Oklahoma where they resided for 30 years while raising their family. Bob had many careers beginning in the oil field business as a field supervisor in 1974 before starting his own business, Boyd Oil Field Construction in 1978. From 1978 to1987 Bob employed over 80 employees that were all treated as family and played a significant part in his life. In 1987, Bob enrolled in North American Van Lines trucking academy after the economy recession of 1985. Bob shortly became an owner operator and worked for North American Van Lines until 2011. During this time, Bob was a vanguard driver earning several trips for high recognition. In 2011, Bob joined Reliable Carriers after much encouragement by many friends. Bob would say, “this was the best decision of his trucking career”. Bob’s hobbies and interests included: Hunting, fishing, horseback riding, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. Bob also enjoyed getting his pilots license and obtaining his personal aircraft where he flew his family around the states. Bob’s family was his pride and joy. Granddaughter Elizabeth Groneweg went on many summer trucking adventures with her Papa. And Bob went to many athletic events with his Grandson’s Landen Richards, Austin Knobloch and Brayden Boyd. Bob is survived by his wife Lynn Boyd of Oberlin, Kansas: Daughter LaDawna Snell (Corey) of Gibbon, Nebraska; Son Kevin Boyd (Sheri) of Albany, OR; Grandchildren Elizabeth Groneweg, Landen Richards, Austin Knobloch, and Brayden Boyd. Great Grandchildren Landry and Paxtyn Groneweg. Adopted family Karen Hunt (Tom) and Jackson. Numerous nieces and nephews and family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, brother-in-law, niece, and nephew.
