Ronald "Ron" L. Thomas

Ronald “Ron” L. Thomas, 54, of Kearney, died Monday, March 6, 2017 at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Saturday at First Church of God in Kearney. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Friday at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home. Mr. Thomas will be cremated following services. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Ronald Lynn Thomas was born on September 9, 1962 in Casper, Wyoming to Grover C. and Fern E. (Hatch) Thomas. He grew up and received his education in Beatrice, Nebraska, graduating from Beatrice High School in 1980. In 1989 he graduated from Kearney State College with a joint bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Business Administration. Ron made his home in Kearney where he worked for EMRG from July of 1989 until July of 1996. From July of 1996 he began working for Gallup in Lincoln, until March of 1998 when he started working for Coleman Power Mate in Kearney. Ron worked for Coleman until November of 2002 at which time he started Ron Thomas IT Consulting. In July of 2006 he began working for Las Vegas Gaming Inc. while continuing to consult various other clients through his own business. He continued to work for LVGI until November of 2014. Ron was united in marriage to Janice Graham. Two sons were born to this marriage, Jacob and Trevor. The couple later divorced. Ron was a kind hearted and generous man who never knew a stranger. He was the life of the party and hoped for everyone to have a good time. He has established many friendships throughout the years in his many hangouts in Kearney, especially the Big Apple. His family and friends will always remember his infectious laugh and wonderful outlook on life. He was an avid collector of antique toys and possessed an entrepreneurial spirit his entire life. He also enjoyed gardening and using his mechanical skills to fix about anything that needed worked on. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and always looked forward to cooking during the holidays. He is survived by his two sons, Jacob Thomas and girlfriend Jessica of Pittsburgh, PA and Trevor Thomas of Kearney; his parents, Grover and Fern Thomas of Kearney; a brother, Dan Thomas and wife Karen of Columbus; two sisters, Lorea Meier and husband Joe of Elm Creek and Terie Dingman and husband Don of Kearney; the love of his life, Robyn Morrison; two nieces, Crystal Wertz and husband Bryan of St. Edward; Austin Thomas of Lincoln; a nephew, Zachary Thomas of Columbus; a grandniece, Ali Lorea Wertz; two aunts, Ruth Johnston and husband Don of Ft. Collins, CO and Eleanor Hatch of Oregon; and several cousins. Ron was preceded in death by his brother, James Thomas.
