Sharon R. Meyers

Sharon R. Meyers, 77 of Kearney passed away Thursday, September 10, 2020 at her home in Kearney. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 Thursday, September 17, 2020 at St. James Catholic Church with Father Jonathan Sorensen officiating. Interment will follow at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney and one hour prior to the service at the church. Sharon was born March 12, 1943 in Minden, Nebraska to Lloyd and Ruby (Eckhardt) Moon. She was raised by Lee and Mildred McGown in Kearney where she attended Kearney High School. On February 7, 1964, Sharon married LeRoy Meyers in Kearney, NE. Later that same year they welcomed their first of three daughters. Sharon was a very active volunteer with her children’s school. When her youngest daughter began kindergarten, she went from a volunteer to a full-time para-professional. Over the course of her 13 years she made quite an impact on students – as she is still remembered by many of those same students today. After leaving Kearney Public Schools she transferred her caring spirit to Mother Hull Home before starting her next adventure as co-owner of Ruby Lee Floral with her daughter in 2000. She loved working in the schools, being a Girl Scout Leader and hosting neighborhood parties. She read and collected Danielle Steele novels and loved to travel – the mountains being especially dear to her heart. She also took great pride and joy in her flower garden and was outside any chance she could get. She was not only a cool mom but the best grandma – always ready with hugs and a full snack cabinet! Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Angela Gibreal of Kearney, Stacie (Chris) Glatter of Gretna NE and Dana (Brian Cross) Meyers of Cortland NE; grandchildren, Kenzie (Brian Anderson) Gibreal of Denver, Megan (Andrew) Penner of Kearney, Halie (Pat) Willard of Omaha, Madison, Corista, Mia Glatter all of Gretna NE, and Adly Cross of Courtland, NE; great grandchildren, Olivia and Madilyn Penner and Penny Gibreal Anderson; brother-in-law, Eugene Reichenker of Kearney; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Sharon was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy Meyers; parents, Lee and Mildred McGown, Lloyd and Mildred Moon and Ruby Eckhardt; sisters, Lois Reichenker and Betty Beavers. She leaves behind three generations of all girls to carry on her legacy. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Condolence may be shared online at www.osrfh.com.
