Teresa Escandon

Teresa Escandon, 81, of Gibbon died Friday, January 22, 2016 at Good Samaritan Society in Wood River. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Wednesday at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Gibbon. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Teresa will be cremated following services. Teresa was born on April 6, 1934 in Guanajuato, Mexico to Juan and Dolores (Rosas) Vega. When she was 13 years old her family moved to Texas. She was united in marriage to Oscar Escandon in Texas. The couple returned to Mexico where they made their home. In 1981 they moved to Gibbon, Nebraska where Teresa worked for Nebraska Turkey Growers until retiring due to a stroke a year later. Mr. Escandon preceded her in death in August of 1996. Teresa was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to cook and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed attending worship services at Assembly of God Church in Gibbon. Teresa is survived by three sons, Raul Escandon and wife Lilia of Gibbon, Ruben Escandon and wife Martha of Grand Island, and Ricardo Escandon and wife Maria of Gibbon; three daughters, Maria Reyes and husband Jose of Texas, Olga Grado (Ramon) of Gibbon, and Aleyda Yepes and husband Rodolfo of Gibbon; 33 grandchildren , 42 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by two infant sons, her parents, her husband, two sisters, and two brothers.
