Theodore Schafer

Theodore B. Schafer, 75, of Kearney died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at St. John's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 24, 2010 at O’Brien Straatmann Funeral Home in Kearney. The Rev. Josh Brown will officiate. Interment with military rites will be in the Kearney Cemetery conducted by the Marines Honor Guard in conjunction with the VFW Post 759 and the American Legion Post 52 of Kearney. Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Ted was born Nov. 3, 1934 in Greeley NE to Herman and Alene (O’Connor) Schafer. He lived in Doniphan, Lincoln, North Platte, NE and in Colorado Springs, CO., and finally in Kearny, NE since 1987. He received his education in Country School District #10, and then went to high school in Doniphan, NE. He also attended trade school in Milford, NE. His level of education was high school, plus trade school. He entered the Marine Corp in June of 1952 and was honorably discharged June of 1955. He was married to Sandra Rose Wilson in July of 1957 in Doniphan, NE. They lived in Doniphan, NE, Lincoln, NE, North Platte, NE, and Colorado Springs, CO. They divorced in 1974. He was married to Peggy Marquart in 1975, lived in Colorado Springs, CO. Peggy passed away in November of 1976. Ted was employed in the construction business at various companies in Colorado Springs, Co and Kearney NE. He owned his own Tamper Construction Business in Colorado Springs for several years. Ted was raised the in Catholic Church and attended services with his family after he was married on occasion to the Baptist Church in Colorado Springs, Co. He did not have a church that he attended regularly while living Kearney since 1987. Survivors include his daughters, Marcia A. Nelson-Polston and husband Mark of Edgewater. CO and Maureen K. Simpson and husband, Brian of Colorado Springs, CO, grandchildren: Casey Danjou, wife Kimberly K.and their children, Kahlee, Tony, and Bryce; and Julie Grau-Banke, husband Wayne and their children Lelani, Bohn, and Tyler, brothers, Mike Schafer, wife Lee Ann of Kearney, children and grandchildren, Paul Schafer and wife Joyce of Doniphan, children and grandchildren, Roger Schafer, Matt Schafer, children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, wife, Peggy and brother Lawrence.
