Thomas Betzold, 76 Kearney resident Thomas Betzold, 76, of Kearney died Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at his home in Kearney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2019 at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney. Father Paul Colling will officiate. Interment will follow at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney with a Vigil/Prayer Service beginning at 5:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Kearney Special Olympics. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Thomas David Betzold was born on February 3, 1943 in Fort Morgan, Colorado to Theodore and Hilda (Weinmaster) Betzold. He grew up in Colorado and graduated from Fort Morgan High School. Thomas was united in marriage to Gertrude Pauls on January 27, 1962 in Fort Morgan, Colorado. To this union, five children were born: Thomas Jr., Marvin "Teddy", Tamara, Robert and Richard. The family moved to Hastings in 1964 and then to Kearney in 1969, where Thomas has lived ever since. Thomas worked for Nebraska Public Power District as a distribution serviceman for over 30 years and retired in 2000. He enjoyed bowling on many leagues and served as a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts. Thomas was also a member of St. James Catholic Church in Kearney where he was a frequent volunteer. In his free time, his hobbies included, golfing, fishing, gardening, woodworking, photography, and watching classic westerns. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gertrude; children, Tom Betzold, Jr. and his wife, Cindi of Palmer, Teddy Betzold and his wife, Susan of Kearney, Tamara Lawter and her fiancé, Joe Andersen of Kearney, Robert Betzold and his wife, Rhonda of Omaha, and Richard Betzold and his wife, Laura of Laramie, WY; grandchildren, Sarah (Rick) Johnson of Ashland, Rachel Ziebarth of Palmer, Amanda Betzold of Eugene, OR, Zach Betzold of Kearney, Derrick Lawter of Omaha, Dillon Lawter of Lincoln, Scott Hickel of Kearney, Noah Betzold, Kaleb (Sydney) Betzold and Madison Betzold all of Omaha, Zavier Peterson of Laramie, WY; great grandchildren, Elsie, Isaac, Everett, Cary Johnson of Ashland and Jackson Ziebarth of Palmer; brother, Richard (Goldie) Betzold of Fort Morgan, CO; sister, Elaine Meyer of Fort Morgan; brother-in-law, Wayne Seeley of Hastings.
