Vera A. Bachkora

Vera Bachkora, 88 Kearney resident Vera Bachkora, 88 of Kearney passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2021 at Kearney First United Methodist Church with Pastor Melody Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery in Grand Island. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Services will also be live streamed through the church website at https://www.kearneyfirstumc.org/watch-online. Memorials are suggested to Kearney First United Methodist Church or to the family for future designation. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Vera Ann Bachkora, the second of two children, was born to John and Gladys (Scott) Williams on August 16, 1932 on a farm near White Lake, SD. Vera’s father was killed in a car accident when Vera was 2 ½ years old. Her mother Gladys, her sister Joan, and her aunt Helen Scott moved to Bassett where Vera attended elementary school. The family then moved to Kearney where she graduated from Longfellow High. Upon graduating, Vera attended Grand Island Business College. She worked seven years in the office at Rainbow Bread. Vera Williams and Floyd Bachkora were united in marriage on August 24 ,1958 at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Their married life of 50 years began on the family farm north of Shelton. They also lived near Fullerton before moving to the Axtell/Kearney area. Vera enjoyed living in Kearney and making many new friends. She was a lifelong member of Kearney First United Methodist Church and Together Sunday School Class. She loved nothing more than to speak with her grandchildren and great-children, and to tell others about them. Known for her big heart and her ability to always select the perfect gift, Vera will be remembered as a wonderfully unselfish and giving person. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Jay Harris of Weaverville, NC; grandchildren, Josh (Kate) Harris of Freeport, FL, and Tyler Harris of Albuquerque, NM; great grandchildren, Noah and Evelyn; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Vera was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd, sister Joan Iverson, and brother-in-laws Wayne Iverson, Bryan Bachkora, and Joe Ciemnoczolowski.
