Victoria Whitley

Victoria A. Whitley, 89, formerly of Gibbon, died Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the Golden Living Center Lakeview in Grand Island. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 14 at Faith United Church in Gibbon with the Revs. Cathy Cole and Gail Boyer officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon with military rites by the Nebraska National Guard Honors Team in conjunction with the Gibbon American Legion Post 310. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, Friday, August 13 at the church and one hour prior to service time. Memorials are suggested to the Gibbon Fire & Rescue Unit or the Gibbon American Legion. She was born February 24, 1921 in Regina, VA to Albert H. and Nellie Mae (Moore) Fluman. She was one of a proud family of 12 children, all of whom shared a strong family connection. The family kept their heritage and traditions alive by celebrating a family reunion every year. Victoria proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II from June 23, 1943 to December 13, 1945. She married Dale A. Krueger on June 15, 1945. They shared their life together for 22 years, until Dale passed away in 1967. She married W.D. Whitley of Texas on April 7, 1973. They resided in Arizona and were fortunate to be together for 31 years, until W.D. passed away September 7, 2004. Victoria lived her life passionately, especially proud of Dale and W.D.'s military service. She enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, playing bingo and general housekeeping duties. Survivors include sons, Roland Krueger of Gibbon, Albert Krueger and wife Carol of Gibbon, Thomas Krueger and wife Gayle of Lincoln; daughters, Kerry Marlatt and husband Rick of Kearney, Nell Willits and husband Richard of Williamsport, PA, Virginia J. Wilarski and husband Tony of Golden, CO, Ella Smith and husband Mark of Crowley, TX and Adeline Bashaw of Estacada, OR; daughter-in-law, Nita Krueger of Kearney; 21 grandchildren, Angie, Mark, Rick, Evan, Phil, Pat, Eugenia, Christina, Debbie, Tony, Aaron, Katie, Adam, Eric, Alison, Lydia, Kurrin, Victoria, Natalie, Ethan and AnastasiaLeigh; and 13 great grandchildren, RaeLeigh, Josh, Christopher, Brock, Kehler, Amaya, Nolan, Ariahanna, Felicia, Steven, Xavier, Evan and Nathaniel. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands, 1 brother, 6 sisters, and 2 sons, Raymond and Dale.
