William “Bill” Bergh, 78 Kearney resident William “Bill” Bergh, 78, of Kearney, died Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, NE. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at the First Lutheran Church in Kearney with Rev. Rebecca Craig and Rev. Meg Sanders officiating. Interment will follow at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. William Albert Bergh was born September 17, 1936 in Hallock, Minnesota to Charles and Emma (Brekke) Bergh. He was raised on a farm near Hallock, MN, and was a 1954 graduate of Hallock High School. Bill furthered his career at a business school in Fargo, ND, and then began his working career at Northwestern State Bank of Hallock. Bill was united in marriage to Karen Kinshella in Hallock, MN. He furthered his interest in the banking profession by accepting a position with the U.S. Treasury Department, Comptroller of the Currency, as a National Bank Examiner, which relocated the family to Sterling, IL. Years later, with a desire to be closer to families, Bill took a position with NW Bank Corporation (BANCO), as an examiner and the family moved to Edina, MN. After a number of years with BANCO, he accepted a position with Center Bank in Omaha, and then shortly after that a position with the Nebraska State Banking Department as an examiner became available and the family moved to Kearney, NE where he worked until retirement. In his retirement, Bill took on the custodial duties at First Lutheran Church for 15 years. Bill’s interest included following sports of all kinds, supporter of “Storm” Hockey, any outdoor activity involving his home, traveling, and most importantly, spending time with his grandkids. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Karen of Kearney; daughter, Debra (Doug) Keller of Eustis, NE; son, Randy (Mary) Bergh of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Brianne (Ryan) Clark of Lincoln, Adam Keller of Manhattan, NY, Niko Bergh, Gianna Bergh, Jaden Bergh and Michael Bergh all of St. Louis, MO; step granddaughters, Ali Rodgers and Caitlin Rodgers of Denver and Tierney Rodgers of St. Louis, MO; sister, Margie (Jerry) Anderson of Lancaster, MN; brothers, Maurice (Edith) Bergh of Arizona, Frank (Annie) Bergh of Clearbrook, MN; mother-in-law, Gladys Kinshella; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Bergh, and Maureen Warner; brother-in-law, Wallace (Kathy) Kinshella, as well as, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott; grandson, Austin Keller; brothers, Gale and Larry Bergh; sister-in-law, Jean Bergh; brother-in-law, Ronald Kinshella and father-in-law, Walter Kinshella.
