Carol A. Friend Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Carol A. Friend, 71 of Kearney passed away Monday, December 6, 2021 at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 10, 2021 at Grace Fellowship Church with Pastor Mitch Ivey officiating. Interment will follow at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Carol was born December 25, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri to William and Jayne (Anderson) Peters. Having a father in the Army, she spent her childhood years growing up in Okinawa, Japan, West Germany, and all over the United States. She attended Lincoln Northeast High School, graduating with the class of 1967. In 1971, Carol graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 1972, Carol was united in marriage to Lee Friend. To this union two children were blessed. Carol was an elementary school teacher for a few years and then stayed home to raise her children. After her divorce in 1987, Carol and her children moved to Kearney where she did medical billing for several medical offices in Kearney. Most recently, she had worked at Walmart at the self-checkout registers for the past 10 years. Carol enjoyed crocheting, quilting, gardening, and canning. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Nikki Friend of Kearney; son, Tim (Crystal) Friend of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Casey, Luke and Claire Friend; brother, William (Gretchen) Peters of Gering, NE. Carol was preceded in death by her parents.
