March 11, 1932 - January 23, 2022

Cherie’ DeTurk 89 of Kearney passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney. Rev. John Rasmussen will officiate. The public is invited to view the service through the Holy Cross Lutheran Church website https://holycrosskearney.org/livestream/. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Interment will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Amherst. Memorials are suggested to Mission Central (Gary Thies) and Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Cherie’ was born on March 11, 1932 to Adolph and Marie (Janky) Rathjen on a farm near Ulysses, Nebraska. She was baptized March 17, 1932 and confirmed August 1945 both at the country Lutheran Church near Ulysses. She grew up in rural Butler County attending school in a one room school through her grade school years when she then went to David City, Nebraska for high school graduating in 1950. Cherie’ married Robert (Bob) DeTurk January 11, 1953. They were married for 67 years before Bob passed away in 2020. They lived on a farm near David City until they moved to a farm near Amherst in 1956. They retired from farming in 1975. Cherie’ was a homemaker spending several years helping at the Amherst Public School. After retirement Bob and Cherie’ worked for Laborers for Christ for numerous years throughout the United States helping to build Lutheran Churches. Left to cherish Cherie’s memories are her children, Michele DeTurk of Amherst, Steven (Deanne) DeTurk of Amherst, and Marche’ (Doug) Epley of Pleasanton; grandchildren, Dana Klingelhoefer, Daniel (Jen) Klingelhoefer, Craig Klingelhoefer, Stephanie (Clint) Stubbs, Tanis (Joshua) DeTurk Saldivar, Brooke (Stephen) Janning, Lacey (Daniel) Schroeder, Jared (Kaylinda) DeTurk, Rachele (Eric) Quinones, Sarah (Michael) Seele, Aaron (Laurissa) Epley, Ross (Michelle) Epley, and Paul Epley; great grandchildren, (Michele DeTurk family) Javin, Kyler, Tayber, Zach, Brandon, (Steve DeTurk family) Wyatt, Isabel, Camila, Kaison, George, Lincoln, Kage, Raleigh, Lawson, Lennuxe, Lexlun and Lacen, (Marche’ Epley family) Tia, Morgan, Katie, Tyler, MaKenzie, Madilynn, MaKayla, Mason, Maddox, Emmett, Waylon, Bonnie, Connes, Tobias, and Vincent; sister, Darleen of Carson City, Nevada; and brother, Dave of Shelby, Nebraska. Cherie’ was preceded in death by her husband in 2020; brother Bob; sisters, LaVerne and Dolores; along with several great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.
