Gary L. Gibbons Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Gary L. Gibbons, 77 of Kearney passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Interment will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the family for a memorial bench at Windmill State Recreational Area. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Gary L. Gibbons was born January 27, 1945 in Kearney, Nebraska to Glen and Irene (Fielding) Gibbons. He was raised in Kearney and received his education from Kearney High School, graduating with the class of 1963. In 1964 he enlisted into the United States Navy serving on the U.S.S. Kamehameha until his honorable discharge in 1968. He was united in marriage to Cynthia Vos on December 29, 1982 in Grand Island, Nebraska. Gary worked at Rockwell International for 18 years, Platte Valley Glass and later at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, retiring in 2007. In his retirement, Gary worked at Ace Irrigation. Gary enjoyed bowling, camping and fishing, collecting beer steins and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cynthia Gibbons of Kearney; daughters, Michele (Mike) Baxter of Kearney, Carrie (Mike) Branson of Wichita, KS, Shannon (Jeff) Sonneveldt of Wichita, KS and Kassandra (Brian) Nolan of Columbus; grandchildren, Mandy (Spencer) Hinrichs, Alexis (Gearg) Schirmer, Austin and Adam Branson, Dylon Baxter, Ethan Sonneveldt, Alex (Failynn) Weiss; great grandchildren, Brynn Hinrichs, Adelynn and Anderson Schirmer; sister, Brenda Oliver of Kearney; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marlin Gibbons; and brother-in-law, Roger Oliver.
