Ila B. Nehls

Ila B. Nehls, 75, of Kearney, died Tuesday, March 07, 2017 at Mother Hull Home. Memorial services will be at 1:30 pm Saturday at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Interment will be at Shelton Cemetery. According to her wishes Mrs. Nehls was cremated. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Ila was born on August 21, 1941 at Gibbon, Nebraska to Walter and Ruth (Loffer) Godfrey. She grew up in Gibbon and graduated from Longfellow High School in Kearney with the class of 1960. She was united in marriage to Lyle Nehls on December 28, 1960 on the family farm. The couple made their home in Colorado before returning to Nebraska in 1972. Ila operated a Daycare in her home for several years and later worked at the turkey plant in Gibbon and Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Nehls preceded her in death in October of 2007. She was a past member of Bethel Church in Gibbon. Ila enjoyed painting and putting together puzzles. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Charlie and wife Retha Nehls of Holdrege; daughters, Lillian Buettner and husband Joe of Holdrege and Arlene Jensen and husband Dennis of Grand Island; 15 grandchildren, Michael Buettner and wife Paula of Kearney, Matthew Buettner and wife Sheena of Westminster, CO, Brandon Buettner and wife Brittany of Kearney, Ray Nehls and wife Jessica of Ft. Collins, CO, Ashlea Nehls and boyfriend Raymond of Holdrege, Tyler Buettner and wife Mandi of Phillips, NE, Richard Nehls of Lincoln, Logan Buettner of Holdrege, Holly Jensen of Grand Island, Brittany Dietz and boyfriend Kris Devaney of Minden, Hannah Buettner and boyfriend Jeremiah Hickman of Holdrege, Derek Buettner and wife Samantha of Wood River, Zachary Jensen of Ft. Collins, CO, Megan Buettner of Holdrege and Heidi Buettner of Holdrege; 28 great grandchildren; two brothers, Larry Godfrey and wife DeAnna of Gibbon and Lyle Godfrey and wife May of Garden City, KS; brother-in-law, Harold Corder of Longmont, CO, sisters-in-law, Darlene Godfrey of Longmont, CO and Maxine Johnson of Lexington; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leland and Virginia Nehls of Grand Island. Ila was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Delores Corder and a brother, Wayne Godfrey.
