September 30, 1957 - February 18, 2022

Kent Maaske, 64 of Kearney passed away Friday, February 18, 2022 at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Faith United Methodist Church in Kearney. Interment will be held at Highland Cemetery in Bertrand, NE. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at the O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Kearney Community Theater or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Kent K. Maaske was born September 30, 1957 in Lexington, Nebraska to Kenneth and Bonnie (Swanson) Maaske. Kent grew up on the family farm where he helped his dad with farming and raising cattle. He was involved in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and church youth group. Kent received his education from Bertrand High School, graduating with the class of 1975. While in High School, he played football, basketball, golf and baseball. Kent was also involved in numerous musical groups. Kent attended Kearney State College. On March 26, 1993, he was united in marriage to Teresa L. Poorman at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Kearney. Kent was an on-air radio personality for several years before becoming an account executive for NRG Media (KQ106/KGFW) for over 35 years. He enjoyed auctions, attending hockey games, Nebraska Volleyball and Football, and doing anything his son was doing. Kent had a love for music and was part of several rock and country bands playing bass guitar and banjo. Kent was a longtime member of Kearney Community Theater and Faith United Methodist Church. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Teresa Poorman-Maaske of Kearney; son, Jacob Maaske of Kearney; sisters Jan Maaske and Julie Maaske and spouse, Chris Dooley all of Lincoln; niece, Brie Gorsett and spouse, Cody of Bennington; aunt, Theone Winkler of Holdrege; cousins, Lisa Havens of Holdrege and Scott Winkler and fiancé, Tony Morrison of Omaha; close family friend, Lynn Ploeger of Kearney; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Lisa Poorman of Kearney; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed and Mary Poorman of Kearney; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends Kent was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Alton and Alma Maaske and Oscar and Clara Swanson; uncle, Robert Winkler; and several other extended family members.
