Leslie Sayles, 66 Kearney resident Leslie Sayles, 66, of Kearney, died Monday, February 18, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Services are 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home with the Rev. Stanley Morrison and Rev. Leslie Poutney officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Nebraska National Guard Honors Team and the North Platte American Legion. O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Leslie Otis Sayles was born March 2, 1946 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Russell and Goldie (Ericson) Sayles. He grew up in North Platte, Nebraska and was a 1964 graduate of the North Platte High School. Leslie continued his education at the North Platte Community College, and later at Kearney State College, where he graduated in 1968. He also attended the Hawamba Community College. He entered into the U.S. Army on September 15, 1970 and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharge on April 23, 1972. Leslie was employed as a Respiratory Therapist and a respiratory Therapist Instructor at the NEMS Medical Center in Tupelo, MS, as well as, in Albuquerque, NM at the PIMA and NM Presbyterian Hospital. Leslie was a member of the Non-Denominational Church, NRRC, Albuquerque Chapter of the Barbershopper Harmony Society , Kearney Area Barbershoppers Chorus # 1733 and the American Legion. Survivors include his daughters, Meagan Settlemires and husband, Corey of Pensacola, FL and Mariki Sayles of New York, NY; grandchildren, Parker Settlemires, Paityn Settlemires and Paisley Settlemires all of Pensacola, FL; mother, Goldie Sayles of Kearney; brothers, Steve Sayles and wife, Nancy of Kearney; nephew, Harlan Sayles of Omaha and Josh Sayles and wife, Belinda of Kearney; 2 great nieces and one great nephew. Leslie was preceded in death by his father, Russell Sayles.
