Martin Cooper, 79 Kearney resident Martin Cooper, 79, of Kearney passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Kearney Regional Hospital. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2020 at New Life Church in Kearney with Pastor Roger Wendt officiating. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Martin Dale Cooper was born January 13, 1941 in Lexington to Ernest and Ersel (Hedrix) Cooper. He grew up in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School in 1959. In 1964, Martin moved to Kearney and started working for West Pharmaceutical Company. He worked there for 39 years and retired in 2003. Martin and his wife Sharon were married 58 years. They had 3 children and 9 grandchildren. He enjoyed reading, traveling, walking, studying the Bible and spending time with his family. He was a member of New Life Church in Kearney where he volunteered his time to help with international students, served on the board, taught Sunday School, led Bible study and volunteered at church camp. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sharon Cooper of Kearney; son, Phillip (Denise) Cooper of Mesa, AZ; daughters, Victoria (Ron) Cone of Kearney, and Nancy Wise of Kearney; son-in-law, Jeff Wise of Gibbon; Nine grandchildren; brother, Dan Cooper of Kearney; sisters, Ruth Meyer of Lexington, Jeanine (Gary) Jones of Johnson Lake; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Martin was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Arlene Halliwell.
