Marvin “Mike” Haskill, Jr., 69 of Elm Creek passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2021 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney with Father Jose Chavez officiating. Interment will follow at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Elm Creek Fire and Rescue Department. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Marvin “Mike” Haskill, Jr. was born May 12, 1951 in Lexington, Nebraska to Marvin Sr. and Delma (Mansir) Haskill. He attended elementary school through the fourth grade in Overton before attending Elm Creek High School, graduating with the class of 1969. On August 14, 1970, Mike was united in marriage to Jill Johnson in Kearney. The couple made there home on the family farm North of Elm Creek where he had farmed since 1975. In his younger years, Mike enjoyed hunting and fishing. Some of his favorite past-times were trading in trucks at Midway Chevrolet and going to morning coffee in town. Mike always loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their many events. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jill Haskill of Elm Creek; daughters, Jami Engelhardt and fiancé, Doug Amend of Kearney and Erin Bear and husband, Ryan of Kearney; honorary son, BJ Engelhardt of Kearney; grandchildren, Triniti and Tryston Engelhardt of Kearney; sister, Karen Hazzard and husband, Gary of Kearney; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, William LeRoy Engelhardt.
