July 15, 1933 - February 9, 2022

Orville F. Schuster, 88 of Kearney passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at St. James Catholic Church with Father Joe Hannappel officiating. Inurnment will follow at Kearney Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Gibbon American Legion Post #310 in conjunction with the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team. The family will receive friends 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday at the church followed by a 6:00 p.m. Vigil/Prayer service. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Orville Francis Schuster was born July 15, 1933 near Tecumseh, Nebraska to Edward and Lucy (Wistuba) Schuster. He was the 3rd born in a family of seven children. He attended country school near St. Mary and was a 1952 graduate of St. Bernards Academy (Lourdes High School) in Nebraska City. In May of 1953, Orville entered into the U.S. Army where he served two years in Sailzburg, Austria. After his honorable discharge in 1955, he returned home to Nebraska where his family had moved to Hamilton County and the Aurora area. Orville worked at Shaneyfeld Produce and then Jones Motor Co. On October 12, 1957, Orville was united in marriage to Elaine Masur. To this union four children were born. Denise, Edward, Roger and Beth. In 1969, the family moved to Gibbon where Orville worked at Smith Implement. In 1972, Orville and his brother Vernon bought Smith Implement, and it became Schuster Implement for the next 40 years. Orville was an active member of the planning commission in Gibbon and the Chamber of Commerce for many years. Orville and Elaine and their families became members of St. James Catholic Church in Kearney in 1981. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and on various committees at St. James. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. After retiring and selling Schuster Implement, Orville and Elaine moved to Kearney in 2013. He volunteered at Good Samaritan Hospital as Communion Ministry until his health no longer allowed him. Orville loved his family and his grandchildren were an added joy. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Elaine Schuster of Kearney; children, Denise (Tom Stewart) Schuster of Kearney, Edward (Janelle Clifton) Schuster of Kearney, Roger (Kelli) Schuster of Gibbon, and Beth (Marty) Thoman of Papillion; grandchildren, Darcie (Joe) Ramirez, Lauren (Keith) Williams, Nicole (Ty) Leonard, Bailee (Tom) Knott, Luke Schuster, Regan (Isaac) VanMetre, Dillon (Jacy) Thoman and Danni Schuster; great grandchildren, Caleese Ramirez, Amelia and Jameson Williams, Bo and Beckham Leonard and another expected in May; brothers, Vernon (Marguerite) Schuster, Virgil Schuster, Dennis (Marie) Schuster, Ron (Betty Albers) Schuster; sister-in-law, JoAnne (Russell) Hans; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Orville was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gene and wife, Lois; sister, Virginia Monaghan and husband, Jerry; sister-in-law, Marlene Schuster; Father-in-law and mother-in-law, Felix and Veronica Masur; brother-in-law, Melvin Masur and wife, Jo Ann; and nephew, Daniel Masur.
