Richard "Dick" Mintling

Richard “Dick” Leslie Mintling, 92 of Kearney passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Mt. Carmel Keens Memorial Home. He was surrounded by his loving family as his battle with Lewy Body Dementia came to a peaceful end. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 2, 2023 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney with Rev. Dr. Michelle Holley Carlson and Rev. Dr. Rick Carlson officiating. Inurnment will follow at Kearney Cemetery with military honors provided the Kearney American Legion Post #52, VFW Post #759 in conjunction with the United States Air Force Funeral Honors Team. Dick was born on December 4, 1930 in Hayes Center, Nebraska. He was the 7th child of Ethel Dee (Barrett) and William Leslie Mintling. After graduating from Hayes Center High School, Dick enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving four years. He met and married the love of his life, Marion “Mary Lou” (Lane) and they made their home, celebrating 71 years of marriage this year. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Lou Mintling of Kearney; daughters, Patty (Jerry) Ibsen of Kearney and Sharie (Charlie) Petersen of Papillion, NE; 5 grandchildren, Christopher (Aimee) Ibsen of Roca, NE, Jennifer (Bill) Barta of Valley, NE, Amy (Aaron) Goldsmith of Gretna, NE, Leslie (Hannah) Tempest of Gretna, NE, Laura (Jaycob) McCormick of Gretna, NE; 14 great grandchildren, Carter, Carson and Claire Ibsen, Sam, Max and Ava Vescio, Drew, Maddi, Charlie and Olivia Goldsmith, Lucy and Rowan Tempest, Nathan and Delaney McCormick; brother, Dean (Bettijean) Mintling of Boulder, CO; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He is preceded in death his parents; parents-in-law, Fred and Marion Lane; siblings, Merle (Mickey) Mintling, Eldeen Shores, La Veta (Speck) Vollmer, Neva (Edward) Loomis, Twila (Keith) Burkert, Riley (Betty) Mintling; nieces Pammy Mintling, Jackie Keiser, Donna Todd; brothers-in-law, Michael Lane, Edward Makof; sisters-in-law, Madeline Todd; and great grandson Oliver Tempest.
