Ursula Bernard, 95 Kearney resident Ursula R. Bernard, 95 of Kearney passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at Wel-Life in Kearney, NE. In consideration of the concern of the COVID-19 virus, and the related mandate issued by the Government, a private family graveside will be held at Saint Patrick Calvary Cemetery in McCook. The family encourages everyone to leave a message of condolence through the funeral home website at www.osrfh.com or send cards/memorials to the family care of O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home, 4115 Ave N, Kearney, NE 68847. Memorials are suggested to Tabitha Hospice or Wel-Life Assisted Living. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Ursula Regina (Smith) Bernard was born on August 7, 1924 to Frank and Anna (Manley) Smith in Hartington, NE. She was the youngest of six siblings. She graduated from high school in Hartington in 1942. She worked at the WNAX Radio Station in Yankton, SD after graduation. Ursula married Douglas A. Bernard on November 25, 1946 in Hartington, NE. They operated two restaurants in Randolph & Hartington, NE until they moved to McCook, NE in 1959 where Doug managed the McCook Elk’s Club and Ursula was his supporting assistant. They spent 29 years at the Elks Club & retired in 1988. Longtime memberships include: St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, McCook, St. James Catholic Church, Kearney. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, B’Anne Zapp and husband, Jerry of Kearney; son, Jeff Bernard and wife, Kathy of Denver, CO; daughter-in-law, Joanne Bernard of Grand Island; five grandchildren, Amy Renken and husband, Todd of Omaha, Julie Dunne and husband, Bryan of Omaha, Nick Bernard and wife, Julie of Omaha, Meghan and husband, Keve of Denver, CO, and Spenser Bernard and friend, Mandi Horvath of Denver, CO; six great-grandchildren, Noah, Josh, and Jude Renken, and Ava, Ally, and Anna Dunne, all of Omaha. She is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas; her parents; siblings, Marie, Marcella, Evelyn, Francis and Mark; and son, Thomas Bernard.
