Wilmer R. “Wac” Hinrichsen, 90 of Elm Creek passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 7, 2022 at the Elm Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2022 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Elm Creek Fire and Rescue Department. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Wilmer was born November 9, 1931 in Overton, Nebraska to Walter and Anna (Hemstrom) Hinrichsen. He attended Overton High School and graduated with the class of 1950. Wilmer served in the United States Army from April of 1952, until his honorable discharge in March of 1954. On June 17, 1956, Wilmer was united in marriage to Fern Becker. The couple made their home in Elm Creek where he worked at Western Alfalfa in Odessa for many years. Wilmer spent his retirement doing handyman jobs with his brother Dean. He also enjoyed going to coffee every day to visit with all the local guys. Wilmer also enjoyed helping the kids out whenever they needed. He liked attending his grandchildren’s activities and watching the great grandchildren play. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Connie (Larry) Hemmann of Amherst, Alex (Jan) Hinrichsen of Elm Creek, Julie Trampe of Elm Creek and Neil (Ann) Hinrichsen of Elm Creek; grandchildren, Melissa (Tyson) Benson, Kelsey (Brian) Knehans, Shelby Hemmann, Amanda (Allen) Stones, Josh Trampe, Emilee Hinrichsen, Lane Hinrichsen, Josh (Ashley) Bailey and Brooke (Gary) Nunns; great grandchildren, Anslee, Case and Callen Stones, Rosalie, Charlotte and Elena Benson, Grey and Kye Chamberlain, Tren Nunns, Lauren, Taylor, Kennedy and Brock Bailey; brothers, Dean Hinrichsen of Broken Bow, Jay Hinrichsen of Kearney; sisters, Lucille (George) Moore of Overton, Delores Ropers of Sargent; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Hinrichsen of Grand Island and Allaine (Roy) Long of Amherst; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Wilmer was preceded in death by his wife, Fern; parents; brothers, Floyd (Marje) Hinrichsen and Ray Hinrichsen; sister, Phyllis Richardson; brothers-in-law, Louie Ropers, Norman Richardson, William Hagan; sisters-in-law, Delores (Murl) Lahm and Delilah Hinrichsen.
