Alta Hebb

Alta Hebb, 83 of Kearney passed away August 21, 2011 at the St. John’s Good Samaritan Home in Kearney. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, August 26, 2011 at the O’Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home in Kearney. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday and continue one hour prior to the service all at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Kearney Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Condolences may be submitted at www.osafh.com. Arrangements entrusted to O’Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home of Kearney. Alta was born May 31, 1928 to Earl and Della (Reynolds) McCoy in the “old soddy” near Rosebud, South Dakota. She taught school for a few years before meeting and marrying Lester Hebb in Kearney on March 8, 1949. During their married life she lived in the Kearney area for many years before moving to Napa, Idaho. While in Idaho, Alta worked in a potato factory. They left Idaho in 1962 and returned to the Kearney area on a farm until 1997, when she moved into town. For many years Alta worked very hard as a farmer’s wife and she had such an appreciation for the farm life, especially after growing up on a farm and helping her parents struggle to make a living. Alta was the best grandmother, grandmother and great grandmother. She especially enjoyed it when her family was around and her humor would always have you smiling even as you were leaving. She enjoyed baking cakes and doing crafts of any kind. Her cooking was the best and her recipes were handed down to others. She was such a caring and loving person. Alta always wanted humor in her life, even if it meant playing practical jokes on someone just to make them laugh or brighten their day. She was a very devoted, life-time member of the Non-Denominational Church. Her bible always gave her much comfort when life would throw her a challenge. She is survived by her son, Lyle Hebb and his wife, LaVonne of Kearney; granddaughter, Shilo Hebb and her fiancé, Tim Osborn of Kearney; grandchildren, Hallie and Tommy Hebb of Kearney; brothers, Ron McCoy of Crookston, NE and Glen McCoy of Omaha; special sister, Laura Ann Roberts of Mission, South Dakota. Alta is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lois Leach and her sister-in-law, Naomi McCoy. Alta will dearly be missed by all that knew and loved her.
