Arleen J. Vohland, 69, of Gibbon, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Faith United Church in Gibbon with the Rev. Cathy Cole officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Sunday and one hour prior to the service all at the church. Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon. Memorials are suggested to the Faith United Church, Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department or to the family for future designation. Vohland was born November 14, 1943 in Kearney, Nebraska to Harley and Lucile (Bilslend) Robinson. She lived in several central Nebraska communities and rural Laramie, Wyoming. The family located in Shelton, Nebraska where she attended grade school. She worked at the Shelton Café for many years while going to school. On April 2, 1961, she married Larry L. Vohland at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelton. After her marriage she moved to Gibbon and transferred to Gibbon High School where she graduated with the class of 1962. Arleen worked at the local Doctor’s office and in several cafes in the area. In 1973, she realized her passion and became the manager/operator of the Cafeteria at the Gibbon Nebraska Turkey Growers Processing plant, at this time she made arrangements that the Cafeteria could be opened to the public. In 1980, she realized another dream; she acquired the IOOF building in downtown Gibbon and converted it from the Gibbon Meat Market into Arlene’s Café and Catering Service. She owned and operated this business for a total of 31 years, before health issues forced her to retire. During this time she was known for her cinnamon rolls, pies and other homemade baked goods along with daily homemade meals. She was known throughout Central Nebraska for her catering service having catered small family reunions to large wedding receptions and special events. She was a member of the Faith United Church, Past President of the Gibbon Chamber of Commerce and a past member of the Gibbon Volunteer Fireman’s Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Larry Vohland of Gibbon; sons, Lonny Vohland and wife, Mindy of Laramie, WY, Kyle Vohland and wife, Daniele of Shelton, and Korry Vohland of Minden; grandchildren, Kellen and Emerson Vohland of Laramie, WY, Kylee, Remington and Drake Vohland of Shelton, Jessa Vohland of Minden and step grandson, Tyson Schroeder of Kearney; mother, Lucile Robinson of Shelton; brother, Lanny Robinson and wife, Beverley of Cairo; twin sister, Eileen Hansen and husband, Gene of Grand Island; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Arleen was preceded in death by her father and brother, Darrel.
