Bill D. Engel

Bill D. Engel, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, 81 of Cozad, NE formerly of Rushville, NE passed away peacefully, Monday, June 30, 2025 at Country House Assisted Living in Kearney, NE. Services will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church in Cozad, Monday, July 7th; Rosary at 10:15 am CST, mass at 11:00 am CST with a luncheon to follow. Graveside service will be held at Hemingford Cemetery July 8th at 11:30 am MST. Bill was born February 11, 1944, in Alliance, Nebraska to Paul and Marcene (Wanek) Engel. He was raised in Hemingford, NE and received his education from Hemingford High School. Bill later earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in counseling from Chadron State College. On December 1, 1962, Bill was united in marriage to Sharon Christensen, his high school sweetheart. The couple made their home in Rushville, NE where they raised their three children. Bill dedicated many years of his life to shaping young minds as an educator and counselor for Rushville Public Schools. He not only had a passion for teaching students about math and physics, but also about life. He left a lasting impact on countless students. Following his career in education, he transitioned into the financial world as a respected financial advisor for Security First Investment Center. Throughout his career, Bill was a talented carpenter, known for his craftsmanship and ability to bring structures to life. His hands not only built several homes with/for his family and friends but also made memories to last beyond his lifetime. Bill was a driven man. His legacy of hard work and dedication was instilled in his children and anyone who had the opportunity to work alongside him. Bill was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rushville, NE. He was a longtime member of the Rushville Fire Department, where he served as Fire Chief for many years. Bill enjoyed being outdoors, pheasant hunting, and sharing 4-wheeler rides with all of his grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sharon Engel of Cozad; children, Brent (Libby) Engel of Hillsborough, NC, Deb (Ken) Castinado of Overland Park, KS, and Brian (Marsha) Engel of Cozad; grandchildren, Matthew (Allie) Castinado, Kelsey (Spencer) Templin, Seth (Maggie) Castinado, Jaden Castinado, Erin Engel, Caleb Engel, Ben Engel, Natalie Engel, Jacob Engel and Nathan Engel; brother, Dave (Kim) Engel of Scottsbluff, NE; sister-in-law, Donna Engel of Hemingford, NE; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Bruce Engel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for later designation care of Security First Bank, 202 West 8th Street, Cozad, NE 69130.
