Dale Merryman

Dale Eugene Merryman, 82, of 5521 Parklane Drive died June 25, 2012 at Cambridge Court in Kearney. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Monday at New Life Assembly with the Reverend Bob Wine officiating. Interment will be in the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 8 pm at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney and one hour prior to service time at the church, with the family receiving friends at that time. Dale was born on August 17, 1929 in Kearney, Nebraska to Asa and Anna (Notz) Merryman. He was a life-long resident of the Kearney area, graduated from Kearney High School and served 10 years in Army National Guard. Dale was united in marriage to Marlene Francis Anderson on February 22, 1952. To this union three children were born. The couple lived and raised their family on the Merryman family farm where Dale was engaged in agriculture for 50 years. He loved working the land the challenges associated with growing crops and livestock. After moving to town Dale was employed by Ace Irrigation for 8 years. In retirement he enjoyed time spent at Bob’s Superstore, visiting with friends and acquaintances over a cup of coffee. Dale was a member of New Life Assembly Church. His hobbies were waterfowl hunting and, more recently, talking politics to anyone that enjoyed a lively debate. A good father and grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with his grandsons on the farm. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, LeeAnn and Troy Smith of Sargent; son-in-law Bruce Petersen of North Carolina; brother Nelson (Buzz) Merryman of Kearney; sisters-in-law Gwen McCune of Hastings and Jan Anderson of Lincoln; and special friend Marge Hitt of Kearney. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marlene, son Randy, daughter Connie Petersen, sister-in-law Sue Merryman, grandsons Christopher Petersen, Jeff Merryman, and great-granddaughter Lillian Merryman. Dale will be truly missed by his family and friends. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Adam Smith, Matthew Smith, Nathan Smith, Jason Merryman, Shawn Merryman, Brett Merryman, Josh Petersen
