Daniel T. Rheome

Daniel Thomas Rheome, 37 of Kearney passed away Saturday, July 11, 2026 at St. Luke’s Good Samaritan Home in Kearney. A celebration of his life will be held at The Other Side on August 8th from 2:00 – 6:00 P.M. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Daniel was born May 25, 1989 in Kearney, NE to Dan and Raegan (Hegarty) Rheome. He was raised in Kearney and was a graduate of Kearney High School in 2007. On October 23rd 2021, Daniel married his best friend and the love of his life, Whitney Benne. For the last 20 years, he proudly ran Rheome Tree Service along side his dad and family. Daniel brought light to every room he walked into with his contagious laugh and his larger-than-life energy. He lived big, and on his terms, he was a kind man with a heart of gold. He loved to lighten the mood, had a knack for storytelling, and would always seize the moment for a good quip. Music was sewn into Daniel’s soul, by his mom, at a young age. He enjoyed every aspect, from rocking out on his drum kit and playing ‘air guitar’ to karaoke nights and car sing-alongs, going to live shows and always putting his own fun twist on song lyrics. Anyone who knew him had a front row seat to his legendary impromptu concerts. Riding motorcycles was one of Daniel’s biggest passions. He was the president of a riding club, “The Woodsmen,” that he co-founded with his best friend, Nathan Kleeb; their crew was like a second family to him. Daniel rode to Sturgis and Colorado many times and enjoyed participating in several local poker runs. Two summers ago, he rode I-80 all the way to where it ends in Atlantic City, continued up the coast to Maine and back to Kearney, putting over 7,000 miles on his bike in two weeks, with Whitney and his dad mostly following in the truck. He loved the outdoors; aside from working with trees every day, he enjoyed bass fishing, exploring in nature and was a proud member of #sticknation. He also loved spending time at home enjoying his hobbies and snuggling with his corgis, Frank, Maggie and Percy. Daniel never grew out of his love for video games; he was an avid online gamer with his “fortnerds”, loved to play classics like RuneScape, Diablo III, and StarCraft, and still had a working GameBoy Color that he often used to play Pokémon. He had a huge passion for fish keeping, with a collection of aquariums that grew to include 10 tanks and over 50 species. He was a diehard fan of his favorite sports teams; The Huskers, The Packers, and Liverpool F.C. He enjoyed attending and watching games with his friends and family. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Whitney of Kearney; parents, Dan Rheome of Kearney, Raegan Hegarty of Westminster, CO and step-dad Larry Loeffelholz of Kearney. Siblings; Jess (Ryan) Fuentez of Westminster, CO, Alex Prewett of Kearney, Brittani (Anthony) Cumpston of Holdrege and Rachel Rheome of Elm Creek. Aunts and uncles Deborah (Dominic) Mills of Kearney, Stacie Lankford of Elkhorn, Larry Lankford of Medford, OR, Doris (Bill) Hoyt of Clay Center, Chris Rheome of Hastings and Rick Jahn of St. George, SC, and Grandmother Barb Walker of Hastings. Daniel will also be missed by the family he married into, the many nieces and nephews who were lucky enough to have him as a Funkle, a very large extended family and an even larger group of friends. Daniel was preceded in death by his younger brother, Hunter Rheome and Grandparents; Thomas and Sandy Hegarty and Dan Rheome Sr., Aunt Vicky Jahn and his dog Tom.
