Ellis Millsap

Ellis L. Millsap, 93 of Kearney passed away Friday November 25, 2011 at the St. John Good Samaritan Society Home in Kearney. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at the First Church of God with the Rev. Charles Gable and Rev. Brian Klein officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Interment will be at the Kearney Cemetery with Military Honors Provided by the Nebraska National Guard in conjunction with the American Legion # 52 and VFW # 759. Memorials are suggested to the Overland Trails Dialysis Center or the St. John’s Good Samaritan Society. Arrangements entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home of Kearney. Ellis Leo Millsap was born October 1, 1918 in Grand Island, Nebraska to James and Pearl (Houts) Millsap. At the age of 4, Ellis and his family moved to Sargent, Nebraska where he received his education at the West Union School. He entered the United States Army on March 5, 1942 and served during WWII. He was honorably discharged September 30, 1943. Ellis was united in marriage to Dorothy Niedt on December 12, 1945 in Broken Bow, Nebraska. He was a retired farmer who never really retired as he continued to work for other farms until he was in his 80’s. He then kept a huge garden and enjoyed landscaping at he and Dorothy’s home. Ellis was baptized at the First Church of God in Kearney and remained an active member, as well as, the yard caretaker until last year. He was also a member of the American Legion # 52. Ellis was adored by his grandchildren and faithfully attended all their activities and sporting events. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Millsap of Kearney; son, Dana Millsap and his wife, Sharon of Overton; daughter, Judy Poland of Kearney, Lori Roper and husband, Denny of Amherst, Tamera Heaton of Kearney, Pamela Davidson of Kearney; son, Kevin Millsap and wife, Claressa of Kearney; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Lois Niedt of Kearney and Dorothy Squiers of Broken Bow; Many nieces and nephews; and close Friend, Ray Schutte of Kearney. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Richard “Dick” Poland; brothers, Merlin, Allen, Cline and Alfred Millsap.
