Gary Lee House

Gary Lee House, formerly of Liberty, Missouri, lost his battle with dementia on March 5th, 2024 at Bickford Cottage Assisted Living in Grand Island, Nebraska. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements. There will be no viewing or book signing. Cremation was chosen. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association. Gary was born on November 27th, 1938 in Jefferson City, Missouri and grew up in Kirkwood, Missouri, playing and working at his dad’s Mobil gas station. This is where he gained his love for cars. His dad also gave him the love of the outdoors, where they would hunt and fish together. He held various jobs, including a traveling salesman for Velsicol Chemicals, owning the Gentleman’s Farmer Store in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, salesman for Dana Incorporated and in retirement he worked for Walmart. Gary’s passion for the outdoors led him to have many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, bicycling, camping, black powder shooting, gardening and later in life he became a certified Missouri Master Naturalist. He wanted to share his love for the outdoors with everyone, so he often organized and participated in educational events, along with participating in other events, such as prescribed burns or cataloging wildlife counts. Gary was his happiest outside, socializing with people. He moved many times throughout his life, but in 1997 when he moved to Liberty, Missouri, he knew he had found his forever home. He lived on a cul de sac filled with friendly neighbors who took him in and made him their surrogate grandfather. Gary enjoyed the neighborhood social events and walking outside to have a conversation with the neighbor mowing their lawn. He was truly missed when he moved away. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eri William House and Inez Henrietta (Lochhaas) and his brother, James. Gary leaves behind a sister, Carole(Dick) Grommet of Fenton, Missouri, two children. Kathy Bishop of Gibbon, Nebraska and Kim Brown of Nassau, NY, along with three grandsons, Nate, Zach and Jake, and three great-granddaughters. The family offers a sincere thank you to the family at Bickford Cottage and the staff of St. Croix hospice for the care they provided Gary.
