Jerry L. Hunnicutt

Gerald “Jerry” Hunnicutt, 72 of Kearney passed away Monday, June 9, 2025 at St. Luke’s Good Samaritan Home in Kearney. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2025 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Interment will follow at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Jerry was born October 7, 1952 to Glenn and Nadine (Killinger) Hunnicutt. He was raised in Hastings and attended Adams Central High School, graduating with the class of 1970. Jerry then attended Kearney State College for two years. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1972, until his honorable discharge in 1974, spending one year in South Korea. In the years after returning from the Army, Jerry followed in his fathers footsteps, entering into the electrical business. He was the owner and operator of Service Electric for over 40 years in Kearney. On July 25, 1981, Jerry was united in marriage to Christine Ernharth and they went on to enjoy traveling and many adventures together. One of the most important adventures they embarked on was in 1999 when they traveled to Romania to bring home their daughter Emma, who they had waited so long for. Jerry and Christine also enjoyed working on many projects together, and were very proud of the numerous home remodels they completed over the course of their time together. They were blessed to share 35 years of marriage until Christine’s death in 2016. Jerry enjoyed many things in life including photography, art, travel, and concerts. He had a soft spot for children, but none so much as for his daughter. Jerry will leave behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, integrity, and of course, strong coffee. He was a beloved member of a close-knit coffee group, where mornings were spent sharing stories, solving the world’s problems, and enjoying the simple joy of friendship. More than anything, he cherished the bonds he built with those around him and he will be loved and remembered with the deepest fondness for many years and generations to come. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Emma Hunnicutt of Colorado Springs, CO; mother, Nadine Hunnicutt of Hastings; siblings, Cheryl Danskin of Eastsound, WA, Lonny Hunnicutt of Hastings, Randy Hunnicutt of Hastings, Melanie (Greg) Butler of Grayland, WA, Julie (Ken) Craig of Hastings, Scott (Evani) Hunnicutt of Toppenish, WA, Lisa (Todd) Hoffman of Hastings and Nancy (Mike) Spady of Hastings; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Hunnicutt; wife, Christine Hunnicutt; brother-in-law, Merlyn Danskin.
