Kyle Gilliland, 25, of Shelton died December 23, 2011 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 28 at the Spirit of Life Church, 3148 Dove Hill Road, Kearney, with the Reverend Greg Mast officiating. A closed casket visitation will be from 6-8 P.M., Tuesday, December 27 at the O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Interment will be at the Kearney Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by Marines of Engineer Maintenance Company, 4th Maintenance Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home of Kearney. Kyle was born August 29, 1986 in Independence, Kansas to Kenneth and Vicki Gilliland. Kyle's first 4 years of life was spent on a dairy farm by Elk City, Kansas. When he was 4 his family moved to Yukon, Oklahoma on another dairy farm. In 1994 when he was 8 his family moved again to Ravenna, Nebraska to yet another dairy farm to be closer to family. He was home schooled all of his life except for his last few years of school. He attended Faith Christian School and graduated from Kearney High in 2005. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corp May 31, 2005 and was deployed to Iraq in January of 2008. He married Patty Pesek on December 2, 2006. While he was in Iraq, Patty gave birth to Kyson Wayne on March 10, 2008. He was involved in 4-H as a child. He worked at Walmart, Ostermeyer Sales, Baldwins and part time for Steve Schuller on his farm. He really loved doing Toys for Tots for the Marines. He even delivered the toys on Chirstmas morning last year. Kyle was a member of the Spirit of Life Open Bible Church. Kyle is survived by his parents Kenneth and Vicki Gilliland of Gibbon; wife, Patricia Pesek-Gilliland of Shelton; son, Kyson Wayne Gilliland of Shelton; sisters, Kendra and Kassy; brothers, Justin and Jesse all of Gibbon; grandparents, Elvin and Opal Gilliland of Lyons, NE; one uncle, Jeff and wife, Denise Gilliland of Oakland; two aunts, Jeanne and husband, Les Christensen of Haviland, KS, and Vangie Head of Kearney; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Harold and Rose Miller of Kearney.
